Dominic Cooper on Warcraft movie story

This weekend BBC America made a panel for their miniseries Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond and guys from Craveonline caught Dominic Cooper who plays Fleming and asked him some questions about Warcraft movie story. Cooper didn’t share any spoilers and story details but gave a comparison with the world we live in today.

“There’s a very human story at the heart of it because there’s a few of us that are humans in it that are up against tribes and problematic issues that exist in the world that we exist in,” Cooper said. “It’s happening all over the world at the moment and you see it happening all over. People have savaged their own lands and their own environment and they’re having to find a new environment in which to move into through the hostility of others. If there’s something as poignant as that that we can relate to and that we see unfolding in everyday life, then it will make it a worthwhile story.”

Daniel Wu & Clancy Brown joined Warcraft

Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown on first look seem like another pair of not well known actors joining Warcraft movie cast list, but both of them have been in the business for a long time. Daniel Wu, US born and educated is a well known actor with a Hong Kong work address and about 40 movies under his belt. His recent english language production are Europa Report and The Man with the Iron Fists.

Clancy Brown is more known face and name. He has been in many TV Shows and on occasion in some movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Hurricane and Cowboys & Aliens, but prolly best known is his voice since he can be heard in many project from video games, animated series and all kinds of narrations. At the moment he is playing in TV show Sleepy Hollow.

So far like the other names, there is no indication of what characters they will play in Warcraft movie. Production starts in about a month in Vancouver.

Warcraft Casting Announcement

Few hours ago Legendary Pictures posted an official press release with a details about lead cast of the Warcraft movie. I was little surprised since some of the names that has been word about suddenly vanished and some that had been no words at all signed the deal. Well, I guess thats how Hollywood business works – some get skrewed some sign deals.

Anyway, the names on the list are Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky and Ben Foster with Dominic Cooper in negotiations. First two names were known from previous negotiation rumors, but others are pretty new. I’ll be honest, I am little dissapointed about this cast, especially since it’s a lead cast. Except Dominic Cooper all other actors are kind of meh for my pick.

New release date set

As expected, Universal & Legendary pushed the release date of the Warcraft movie after new Star Wars decided to share the previous release date of December 18, 2015. You can’t compete with Star Wars and it was already late in the year date so the best way is to move it forward few months and that is exactly what happened.

New release date is March 11, 2016.

Haters will probably say that movie is now doomed since no good movies come in pre blockbuster season, but lets look at the positive aspects of the March release date. Since they are planning to make a franchise out of Warcraft, the first movie simple can’t flop on the box office. First 3 months of the year are usually for “not high hopes” movies and indie stuff so competition will for sure be much easier then if they went during the summer or against Star Wars or similar well established franchises. They are not really aiming for Oscars to go with late year release date as a must, so moving forward is best decision they could make.

Colin Farrell talks about Warcraft movie

colin-farrellColin Farrell had a chat with IGN about his new movie Saving Mr. Banks and they touched the subject of Farrell rumors regarding the Warcraft movie role. He confirmed that he sat with Duncan Jones and read the script which he think it pretty awesome. He also said he is not a game fan and never played it, but the world described in the script seems remarkable and he admires Duncan’s work on the movie Moon and thinks with world like Warcraft he can do magic. He also couldn’t tell what role they have for him and in what stage the movie is right now, but all the rumors kinda point to Medivh and me personally, from that part of lore, I don’t see him in any other role then Medivh. The rumors before said he is 50/50, but after this interview and his remarks that he can’t say some stuff, I would say he is prolly signing…

[About rumors] Warcraft? Don’t know what’s happening, man. I read the script, if that’s any use to you, and it’s amazing.

BlizzCon 2013 Warcraft Movie Panel

divider-postblizzcon2013-warcraft-moviedivider-postFinally after so many BlizzCons we get more than few sentences about movie. We got an hour of talking about the movie. Even they say they did something similar 3 years ago, I guess my memory of that event is pritty dim. Anyway, on the panel the talkers were Duncan Jones, Chris Metzen, Bill Westenhoffer and Nick Carpenter. You can watch the full Warcraft movie panel here.

They said right in the start that they really don’t have too much to share since marketing haven’t started yet and hell not even filming that will start in January. So it was more of a chit chat between the guys on panel and their backgrounds and what they want to do with movie. Both Duncan and Bill are long time Warcraft players and are very passionate about the project. Duncan expressed his interest while still Raimi was in the picture. Later he got his chance, he read the current script and decided it too much Alliance and that story need to be told from both sides and from the start – The First War. The movie will be live action plus CGI and to my surprise, Orc will be played by real actors cause they want to make them as believable as possible. Bill said that they have a great team at ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) that is working on the Orcs. They aim for gritty style with Avatar & Game of Throne mix.
