WARCRAFT MOVIE - Release date: June 10, 2016 - Director: Duncan Jones

Official Warcraft trailer coming this friday

Finally, we have exact date for offical Warcraft trailer – Friday, 6th November. Also new offical movie poster arrives and one interesting thing, new offical name – Warcraft: The Beginning. To me, that is a sure sign that they are going for trilogy and prolly more.

Warcraft movie trailer stills leaked

Someone posted on reddit these 7 screenshots of the Warcraft movie trailer. Some familiar faces are shown, like Garona, Orgrim & Durotan with awesome looking Frostwolf, King Wrynn, Lothar and misterious High Elf in the corner of one screenshot 🙂

Few Warcraft movie images

From empireonline.com to mmo-champion.com comes these 3 Warcraft movie images. I hope Empire will give us better quality for 2 of the images in their online edition, but at this moment only Durotan is not blurry. Despite quick split between fans about Durotan looks, my opinion is – awesome. Yeah he does have human eyes, but since whole movie premise is about “nobody is evil”, then Warcraft movie orcs need to have that more human touch to appeal to larger audiance. Somehow I have a feeling that biggest problem with this movie might be the Orcs and what Lord of the Rings trilogy put into audience mind about orcs, cause Warcraft orcs and LOTR orcs have only name in common. Hopefully trailer to come (Duncan Jones said November) will maybe start to change that “pure evil” opinion about the orcs that LOTR movies set.

Ben Foster talks about Warcraft pushing the technology

While promoting his latest movie The Program, during interview with IGN Ben Foster talked about Warcraft movie and how technology used to make it is something that has not been done yet (I just hope it will be much better than last Hobbit movie).

ben-foster“Duncan Jones did something very intelligent. He made a lot of practical sets, so when you’re in the woods, or the forest, he’s built the forest. When you’re in the castle, he’s built the castle. It’s a huge, huge movie. They invested in pushing technology in a way that I’ve never seen. Duncan Jones loves the game, played the game; it was surrounded by people who have spent years it would seem of their lives in the Warcraft world. It’s spooky, because I didn’t know anything about the game. But you talk to people and they talk about hours that they’ve put in. It was made by people who have lived very intimately with the source material.

What’s most exciting is that it’s about humanising the characters. So if we have a creature, they’re able to track eyes now, and the way eyes dilate. It’s no longer an interpretation; it’s fairly accurate so if these are the windows to the soul, you’re watching a performance come to life. There’s an intimacy that I’ve never seen before in fantasy film. I think Duncan’s done something very special with it. I don’t even think this is about a video game. This is about old metaphors, old stories. It’s based in myths, and has some amazing technology advancements that I think people will really dig.”

Duncan Jones reaction on leaked Warcraft teaser trailer

For few days there has been a blurry, crappy, low quality Warcraft teaser trailer (at leasted looks like one) available to see. Usually I don’t post those things on the site since they get removed fast and put the links only to FB page. This kinda sticked around prolly cause it’s on some romanian server as a direct video file. You can check it out here

It does look pretty good, in a matter of content at least 🙂

Even Duncun Jones commented on it on his twitter

Legendary Pictures already said they will show the trailer in November. BlizzCon I assume, but maybe this leaked trailer at least make them release a teaser before a proper trailer on BlizzCon.

Duncan Jones’s group interview from SDCC

A group of reporters from various websites had a group interview with Duncan Jones at SDCC at Legendary panel and crew from Den of Geeks kinda put the most interesting answers in one place. First thing that pops out about Jones is he’s real deal about the Warcraft. Somehow I think that at this moment there is not a director in Hollywood that fits better to tell the Warcraft story good for the movie.

duncan-jones“I’ve been playing back since Orcs and Humans, back in the real time strategy days,” he said. “I actually used to play Lost Vikings, which was a game that Blizzard made even before that.”

On question about how possible is that Warcraft movie will be that movie that will break the curse of videogame movies.

“I don’t know if there’s a curse to break, but I feel we’ve made a great film. I have an amazing cast. I have WETA who have built these stunning props for the film, the weapons and the armor. Gavin Bocquet was our production designer and he made these extraordinary sets up in Vancouver where we were shooting. We had these huge environments to shoot in, and then we have the motion capture performances where ILM have delivered, I think, their best work ever [in motion capture].”

About how will the non gamers react to the Warcraft movie, since a lot of general problems of this type of movies is that general audience was not usually targeted audiance.

“Right from the start,” Jones said, “it was absolutely imperative that we came up with a story that stood on its own, and brought an audience who didn’t know about Warcraft along with it. Not everyone who saw the first Lord of the Rings movie had read Tolkien, but Peter Jackson did a wonderful job bringing the audience along to get them involved in that universe.”

What can Warcraft fans expect in the movie and how are the characters potraited and to watch out for Orgrim Doomhammer played by mocap Rob Kazinsky, who is also a WoW veteran.
